OUR HISTORY

​​Shaw Bakers (formerly Bay Bread) has been operating in the Bay Area since 1996. In 2012 after growing our retail and wholesale business in parallel, La Boulange/Bay Bread was acquired by Starbucks to help lead the Food Vision and Transformation in North America.  With the incredible support of all functions, the team completely restructured the supply chain, educated tens of manufacturers to scale artisanal recipes made with great ingredients, and changed the operating protocols at store level, resulting in massive sales and profitability growth for the food business at Starbucks.

In 2015, a new chapter began when we acquired 70k sq. ft commercial bakery and 6 La Boulange (now La Boulangerie) cafes from Starbucks. Shaw Bakers became USDA certified, with a focus on upleveling commoditized product categories.​

​Today we are building premier artisan bakery brands, with our partner Premium Brands, focusing on manufacturing activity, supplying an assortment of high quality baked goods to La Boulangerie, as well as top national retailers and food service operators. We employ over 350 team members across facilities and have invested in the most advanced technology to scale high quality food. We also operate 4 café bakeries in San Francisco, staying true to our roots serving wholesome, delicious bakery and café fare in the heart of four vibrant San Francisco neighborhoods.
